In _Mutineer's Moon_, Colin's brother Sean works for the U.S. Forestry
Service. There's no such entity. The U.S. FOREST Service is under the
auspices of the Department of Agriculture.
Having put myself through college by working summers for USFS (doing
everything from setting fires ("controlled burns") to putting them out
to swabbing toilets in campgrounds) I kind of took exception to this.
And I don't think I am wrong but I doubt there are any legal issues
with using the correct name of a US Government Agency in a work of
fiction.

That a minor misnomer compared to some that
I have seen. Anyway, the book starts in 2030?
Who knows what the USFS will be called by
then <g>.

That will be just one of the 50 agencies
that the USFS will split into by 2030.
Gotta put those new 10 million government
employees somewhere.

Nope. You forget that there won't be any trees outside of Christmas Tree
Farms in 2030.

I intend to celebate the 2012 solstice in a proper way, with a nicely
decorated green tree , just like my great-great.......grandparents did.
I invite you to join in, and ignore that religious claptrap.

Yeah, organizations can change names. This means nothing since it's
set in the future.

They were called "The Forestry Division" back around the start of the
20th century.
