_Like a Mighty Army_ (Safehold) by David Weber
http://www.amazon.com/Like-Mighty-Safehold-David-Weber/dp/0765361272/

Book number seven in a series of eight books. Please note that I believe that this series is a predecessor to the Dahak series in
that this is the period after the first or second interstellar empires.

I really want the series and book to work well. That said, the book is a slog and wordy with hundreds of characters in a massive
work to explain the rebellion. There is a character reference at the back but I still got lost after the twenty main characters.

The eighth book in the series, _Hell's Foundations Quiver_, will be out in September:
http://www.amazon.com/Hells-Foundations-Quiver-Safehold-David/dp/0765321874/

My rating: 3.4 out of 5 stars
Amazon rating: 4.0 out of 5 stars (440 reviews)

What you believe is an impossibility. Both _Mutineer's Moon_ and
_Off Armageddon Reef_ refer to 20th Century (and earlier history)
but are otherwise completely incompatible.

Mutineer's Moon is after the fourth Imperium?

Do you happen to remember where the Terran 20th century is mentioned in OAR?

Thanks,

Yes, Dahak (I) was/is an Fourth Imperium planetoid that arrived at
Earth ~51,000 years ago (MM & TAI).

We also know that 4I was later replaced by the Fourth Empire which
self-destructed "almost forty-five thousand years" ago (TAI). Colin
then creates the Fifth Empire.

It's not 20th century but the first line in OAR is:

July 2, 2378
Crestwell's Star, HD 63077A
Terran Federation

I think there's explicit backreferences later to the 20th century but
it's easy to find things like that by searching.

The Safehold series shares a number of ides with the Dahak series but
there's also gaping discrepancies which makes them totally and utterly
incompatible.

Point; maybe a resurgence of Kangas (another genocidal
species)...

With Dick and 'Milla (excuse me; Dick and *Evelyn*) for
backup. ;-)

Honor has no business mixing it up with Fifth Imperium ships.

Love the hell out of that. And he should tag it into the end of the last
Safehold book.

It is freaking awesome.

I miss Dahak. I am fairly sure that series could be Rhodanized by Weber
and I would buy every new volume without qualms.

Same here. At the least, I'd like to see something about how
they deal with the Nest Place. I'd also like to see a sequel
to "The Excalibur Alternative"; the "60% chance" mentioned
at the end leaves quite a bit of room for development.

Yeah, it won't end that way because the enemy would have hyper
missiles also. It doesn't fit the facts.

Why do you say that there are only eight books in the series?
Because there was an implied "so far" (assuming you're including the
not-yet-published volume).

Why do you say that there are only eight books in the series?
Because today, there are seven published books and one announced book in the series.

There will probably be more published books in the series.

But, if David Weber is run over by a bus today, there will not be a ninth book.

Of course there would. Haven't you noticed how authors continue
publishing long after they are dead?
