_Shadow of Freedom_ (Honor Harrington) by David Weber:

http://www.amazon.com/Shadow-Freedom-Honor-Harrington-David/dp/1476736286/

Book number 18 of 19+ book series plus a few
more books. A book of the Honorverse in which
Honor Harrington is only briefly mentioned, not
starring in. The book is quite jumpy and intro-
duces quite a few new characters who are not very
important.

Even though quite a few things happen in this
book, not much happens central to the Empire of
Manticore story. Bypass if wished. One wonders
if the Honorverse story is winding down with not
many more interesting things to tell.

My rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars
Amazon rating: 3.8 out of 5 stars (277 reviews)

If you are referring to chapters 1, 2, 4, 9, 17, 18, 22, 23, 25,
27, 30, 31, and 32; I think you are wrong. I view those as ticking
time bombs (I suspect there are a lot more out there) and I expect
to see much discussion of this in the next mainline book.

Agreed. The sideline books are providing more detail on the
background of what happens in the mainline books. Remember the Torch
books explained why Cachet suddenly showed up in Haven explaining that
the real enemy is Mesa, not Manticore.

Without the sideline books that would be quite a leap.

I'm not on Weber's web page; do we know when the next mainline book is?

I thought that it had been announced but now I
do not see anything. The next Honorverse book
in general is:
http://www.amazon.com/Cauldron-Ghosts-Crown-Slaves-David/dp/1476736332/

And Weber is starting a new Manticore prequel
series with Timothy Zahn:

332/
I got the eARC of that, found it quite good.

Chose not to get that eARC because being set in the past, it can't advance
the main story.

Another 'With...' book - in this case Eric Flint so although we don't get the big space ship battles, this book does come with decent not-so-small action warfare

I am beginning to feel that the series is losing its focus on the main Harrington plot line with all these additional sub series.

Are we actually getting less-frequent Harrington releases?

Keep in mind that Harrington was originally supposed to be *DEAD* at the
end of _At All Costs_. I imagine that redoing the plotlines takes some
time. Personally, I like seeing more of other characters.

Other than the prequels the sub series are to me fleshing out the
details of the world.

Without them would it make sense for the sudden shift from war to
alliance with Haven?
