DW sure thinned out the cast of characters in this one, didn't he?
Pretty much all the Harrington clan except HH's own immediate family,
both LaFollets, High Admiral Mathews, an entire treecat clan, and
still more armsmen (two things to never wear, a red shirt in Star Trek
and a green uniform in the Honorverse)

Other than Protector Benjamin and his wives, does Honor Harrington
have any friends left who are *not* pre-prolong?

I lost track during the destruction of the stations - where were
Ginger Lewis, Aubrey Wanderman, Paulo d'Arezzo, and Aikawa Kagiyama
when all the bad stuff was going down?

There's a comment in the book that Kagiyama was not aboard Hexapuma,
just before it was destroyed. So I'm assuming he survived. d'Arezzo
we know was on Gryphon, and I'm assuming that Lewis and Wanderman were
as well, because of the evacuation drill.

I'm also going to say that there were probably more armsmen killed,
since the previous books mention that there's a team of them to ensure
security anywhere Honor or her family go.

This should actually read: Other than Protector Benjamin and his
wives, does Honor Harrington have any friends left who ARE
pre-prolong.

I know he was visiting family, but for some reason I keep thinking his
family lived on the station (from an earlier book). Can't find the
reference, though.

d'Arezzo
we know was on Gryphon,
I missed that, I thought he was stationed on Hephastus. Was it said
that explicitly?

I was thinking that too, but some people, besides the Admirals, were
supposed to stay on the station during the drill.

Agreed. The advance party, for instance, plus any assigned to
relatives (such as cousin Devon, who is in the line of succession).
I'm guessing Miranda might have been part of that advance party too.

He was assigned to Weyland, with Ginger and Wanderman.

make that "does she have any friends left who are pre-prolong" (or
"any friends left who have not had prolong treatments")

I think he was making it easier for him to keep up with his cast of
characters and he likes people to feel it when somebody dies.

Though he needs to kill off a few "Lewis"s. Mission of Honor has four
different characters named "Lewis", none of whom are related, as far as
I can tell.

I suppose he likes the name and I know from experience that it is easy to
reuse names you have already used however you are correct. He needs to do a
search and replace to change some of them unless they are minor characters
he doesn't plan to reuse.
