Post by Jaime CruzJust saw this book is out, but Baen wants $15.00 for an EBOOK? I would
pay that much for a hardcover, but there's no way in HELL I'd pay that
much for an Ebook.
It's an "e-arc"; check Baen for what that means.
The full release is supposed to come out on 2 Oct - $25 at
Amazon for the hardback; nothing yet on the price of the
ebook, but they've generally been around $10-12 on initial
release at both Amazon and Baen. Of course, sales through
Baen aren't taxed... ;-)
Unless something has changed, the Baen eBooks are also DRM free.
October 2 isn't that far away; I can wait. Thanks.
Yeah. A few years ago they did have to bump the prices up because of
issues with Amazon, so new releases went from "about paperback price" to the
$10-12 Kindle standard. With the eARCs, you're paying a premium to get at
the book before the final editing pass, five bucks isn't too unreasonable for
people who can't wait.
It always seemed to me like paying extra for a beta release.
Post by Dave Van DomelenAnd older books are still pretty cheap (or even
free) at Baen.com.
Yep. And there's a website that offers .iso files of quite a
few of the Baen "old" releases, all free to download, and
apparently with Baen's blessing:

Post by Dave Van DomelenNow, Tor absolutely sucks, charging $20 for some eBooks even after the
thing has come out in paperback. It's like they want to prove ebooks can't
work financially.
Tor has had some good authors; Weber's "Safehold" series was
released by Tor through Amazon; I have both the hardbacks
and the ebooks, and the next in the series will be released
on 8 Jan for $14.99, and all the others are under $10 (well,
the highest are $9.99...) at the moment.
The same seems true for the Tor Modesitt series; price at
the upper end when released (seems to be usually $15), and
dropping to less than $10 after a couple of years.
Post by Dave Van DomelenDave Van Domelen, notes even some new releases are below $10 on Baen.com
if they're digital-only, as Amazon itself sells digital-only below the
standard price.
The few that *are* released as digital-only, anyway.
